How does chord identification work?
Enters 3 notes (0-11 semitones from C). Intervals between sorted notes determine chord type: 4+3 = Major, 3+4 = Minor, 4+4 = Augmented, 3+3 = Diminished.
What do the numbers mean?
0=C, 1=C#, 2=D, 3=D#, 4=E, 5=F, 6=F#, 7=G, 8=G#, 9=A, 10=A#, 11=B. Octave doesnt matter for chord identification.
What is a major chord?
Root + 4 semitones + 3 semitones. C-E-G = C Major. Bright, happy sound.
What is a minor chord?
Root + 3 semitones + 4 semitones. C-Eb-G = C Minor. Sad, melancholic sound.
What are seventh chords?
Add a 4th note. CMaj7: C-E-G-B (4+3+4). C7: C-E-G-Bb (4+3+3). Cm7: C-Eb-G-Bb (3+4+3).
