The calculator is based on the landmark Poore & Nemecek (2018) study published in Science, which analyzed data from over 38,000 farms across 119 countries. Water footprint data comes from Mekonnen & Hoekstra (2012). This is the same dataset used by the Omni Calculator Meat Footprint tool.
