About This Calculator

Our Currency Calculator is a fast and easy tool for converting between 23 major world currencies using reference exchange rates. Whether you're planning international travel, shopping from overseas websites, or simply curious about how much your money is worth in another currency, this calculator provides instant results.

The calculator uses reference exchange rates to convert your amount. Simply enter the amount, select the source currency (what you have) and the target currency (what you want), and click Convert. The swap button lets you instantly reverse the conversion direction. The results show the converted amount, the exchange rate used, and a bar chart comparing exchange rates across major currencies.

How Currency Conversion Works:

The conversion is based on the formula: Converted Amount = Amount × (Exchange Rate of Target / Exchange Rate of Source). All rates are defined relative to the US Dollar (USD) as the base reference. For example, if the USD-to-EUR rate is 0.92 and you want to convert 100 USD to EUR, the result is 100 × 0.92 = 92 EUR. To convert between two non-USD currencies, the calculator first converts to USD equivalent and then to the target currency.

Click the swap button (⇄) located between the From and To dropdowns. This instantly exchanges the two currencies, making it easy to calculate reverse conversions without manually reselecting both dropdowns.

Are the exchange rates live or static?

This calculator uses reference exchange rates that serve as a general guide. For the most up-to-date rates with live data from the European Central Bank, use our Currency Converter tool which fetches live rates from the Frankfurter API.

Can I share a specific currency conversion?

Yes, the calculator saves your amount, source currency, and target currency in the URL. You can copy the URL and share it with anyone, and they will see the same conversion result when they open the link.

What is the formula used for currency conversion?

The conversion uses the formula: Converted Amount = Amount × (Target Rate / Base Rate), where rates are expressed relative to USD. For example, to convert USD to EUR, we calculate USD amount × (EUR rate / USD rate) to get the equivalent in euros.

Why do exchange rates differ between banks and this calculator?

This calculator shows reference interbank rates. Banks and money exchange services typically add a markup of 1-5% to the interbank rate as their fee. Actual rates may also include transaction fees, commission charges, or a spread built into the exchange rate.

How can I get the best exchange rate for international transfers?

Compare rates from multiple providers including banks, online transfer services like Wise and Revolut, and currency exchange bureaus. Online services typically offer rates closer to the interbank rate. Avoid airport exchanges which have the worst rates, and consider timing as rates fluctuate throughout the day.
